In 2014 the entire theatrical world celebrates the 450th anniversary of the birth of William Shakespeare. Many people take this date incredulously. At the very least, because Shakespeare's birthday is actually unknown. It is just generally accepted that he was born April 23, 1564.
Who bore the name of Shakespeare - the poet Christopher Marlowe, Earl of Rutland, or even Queen Elizabeth I – we will never know for sure. But the evident truth is that Shakespeare is marvelous.
So Mikhail Chekhov Riga Russian Theater is celebrating the great bard’s jubilee with a premiere of his earliest romantic comedy "The Two Gentlemen of Verona". What could be more wonderful than youth and its delusions of love and friendship? How to remain faithful, when your passions overcome you? What can you learn, when your eye is blinded by love? Mistakes of youth are forgiven because life is just beginning, and the way of knowing is fascinating, though sometimes thorny.
